Established in 1997, The Grace Children’s Foundation (TGCF) focuses its resources on orphaned and disadvantaged children. Most of these children live without basic life skills or the crucial anchor of family. Nearly all have pressing needs. Few possess anything but the most basic clothing. Almost none have a formal education or any prospect of it. Many have wide ranging but untreated medical problems.
Typically, these children must leave the orphanages in adolescence but basic services and vital links to their communities elude them. Without family or formal schooling they face slim prospects for acceptance by society and little chance for even the most basic employment. There are also countless numbers of children who are disadvantaged, living with parents or caregivers who are unable to access necessary resources for their well-being. These are the children who wait. The Grace Children’s Foundation’s goals were conceived as a means to meet the pressing needs of these children and to connect them to resources that are out of reach. TGCF has established a systematic approach to healing and learning through its medical, education and humanitarian aid programs and TGCF’s Children’s Resource Exchange Center, an innovative, coordinating mechanism that delivers vital resources and systems the children can rely on as they face the challenges of entering their own society. In the case of children living with family, it supports them with appropriate resources according to their needs. Our vision is to see the children in a place where they have elevated themselves beyond survival, where they may flourish and have a chance for lives with dignity and purpose. OUTCOMESThe Grace Children’s Foundation has created bridges of understanding between the United States and China. The outcome is the implementation of a systematic method of healing and learning that may be replicated worldwide for millions of children in need. TGCF’s mission attracts individuals, like-minded organizations and corporate partners from the United States, China and around the world who contribute their care, expertise and funding through the Foundation’s programs to create positive outcomes. While highlighting their efforts and affirming their philanthropy, the participants also support the reach, sustainability and replication of TGCF’s Children’s Resource Exchange Center model. FUTUREWithout systematic change that connects the need to the remedy there is little hope for children in dire circumstances—those that go without medical care, those children who are left uneducated and without basic necessities. The Grace Children’s Foundation is privileged to lead in the efforts to coordinate what the United States and China have put into motion through TGCF’s Children’s Resource Exchange Center. This innovative mechanism is changing the outcome for orphaned and disadvantaged children who are too often relegated to the periphery of society and is instrumental in the replication of a model for social change on behalf of children around the world. All of these children are our future. |
