Before we share an update on our work and plans in China, all of us at The Grace Children's Foundation wish to extend our care to the children and our deepest sympathy to the people of Japan.
Since our arrival in July 2010 we have been working on the logistics of opening and operating The Grace Children’s Foundation’s (TGCF) and TGCF’s Resource Exchange Center’s first international office in Beijing. As we make steady progress toward that goal we continue to work with our partners, the China Children and Teenager’s Fund and the All China Women’s Federation, to ensure that we abide by all government regulations to continue, sustain and expand operations in China.
The entity we are establishing here is the underpinning for replicating globally TGCF’s Resource Exchange Center and is enthusiastically received by all the professionals in the various business, academic and government forums we have either addressed or met with. They are optimistic because at its core this model of healing and learning supports a systematic method for the coordination and delivery of gratis resources to orphaned and disadvantaged children. They acknowledge the urgent need for a model such as TGCF’s Resource Exchange Center before any sustainable outcome takes place for children in need.
Another development is the launch of TGCF’s Youth Initiative (YI) and the “This Is Our Message” campaign. We are engaging Youth — grammar, middle and high schoolers, university students and young professionals — to help us toward our proposed launch date of April 16, 2011. We acknowledge that their voices are powerful and together we can change the outcomes for children in need. The YI will kick off with a UTUBE video, booklet and Youth Initiative short film. We are asking that the YI participants use their talents, imaginations and skills, combined with compassion for those less fortunate, in producing these media tools.
We are honored that Steve K. Lee, M.D. has joined TGCF’s Board of Directors and that Decun Qian has taken his post as TGCF’s Country Director, China.
TGCF’s Education/Vocation Program is developing a system to support young Chinese professionals in learning English, interpretation and business skills.
TGCF’s Medical Program is also at work. We wish to acknowledge the people and organizations that have come together on behalf of the children. These experiences have been examples of what can be accomplished through partnership, innovation, tenacity, compassion and the coordination and delivery of vital resources...connecting the need to the remedy.
